Find out how long to run your pool pump each day for optimal water quality and energy efficiency.
Pump Settings
What's the difference?
Single speed pumps run at only one speed (High - approx 3,500 RPM).
Variable speed pumps run at different speeds. Generally these are High (approx 3,500 RPM) and Low (approx 1,750 RPM) but some pumps have intermediate settings between the two.
Our timing guidance is based on running variable speed pumps on low speed for a longer period of time. This keeps your water moving, albeit more slowly, while saving energy. Please be aware that if you have water features such as fountains, waterfalls or bubblers, you will need to run your pump on high for them to work effectively, and you'll need to adjust your pump times accordingly.
Light Use: A couple of adults using the pool daily.
Moderate Use: A small family using the pool daily.
Heavy Use: A larger family, including multiple kids, using the pool daily.
Recommended Runtime
Complete all selections above to see your recommended pump runtime.
*Variable speed pump recommendations are based on LOW speed settings for optimal energy efficiency. If you have water features such as fountains, waterfalls and bubblers you will need to run the pump on high when these are on. For every hour that you run the pump on high, reduce the low-speed runtime by 30 minutes.
